Flights to Lima, and to Iquitos

Flights from US to Peru

We are happy to discuss travel options with you. You final destination is Iquitos Peru with a plane change in Lima, Peru.

Frequent Flyer miles
Jeffrey and Cielle have each traveled to Peru 12 times using AA frequent flyer miles earned from using Citibank Credit cards.https://creditcards.citi.com/credit-cards/aadvantage-credit-cards/  Look for options under the "travel Rewards" link

One great card they offer has these rewards
  • Earn 30,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after $750 in purchases within the first 4 months
  • Earn 1 AAdvantage® mile for every $1 spent on purchases
  • Pay no annual fee for 12 months & $85 thereafter

We have traveled to Peru on American Airlines for as little as 30,000 frequent Flyer miles. With this new card you can sometimes start with all the miles you need to book a flight to Lima from the US.

It is probably too late to apply for such a card in order to accumulate the needed miles for an trip in February, but we recommend this as the points you accumulate can be used in the the future with American Airlines.  Unlike other frequent flyer programs with other airlines, we find we really can book a long distance flight with American Airlines with just 25,000-35,000 miles.

Booking your Airfare

Most airlines will route your flight from the US to Peru through Miami or Atlanta for a 5  - 7 hour flight to Lima.  From Lima your flight to Iquitos will be about 1.5 hours.

http://www.kayak.com  frequently shows good fares to Peru, by searching multiple airlines for you.  Check the cost of flights from your US airport to both Lima and and onto your final destination, Iquitos. Look for the trip as a single fare as well by two separate tickets, one from US to Lima and a second flight from Lima to Iquitos.  American Airlines partners with LAN in Peru and it is sometimes cheapest to purchase a ticket via American all the way to Iquitos as opposed to a flight from US to Lima and then from Lima on to Iquitos. And sometimes not. Copa Airlines flies from several US cities directly to Iquitos (with a stop in Panama City).  Several people find it is cheaper to purchase a ticket to LA and then fly Copa direct to Iquitos than to fly from a US city to Lima and then from Lima on to Iquitos.  By considering many flight options you may be able to save hundred or more dollars on you airfare.
